With a new city comes a new selection of shops to go absolutely crazy in, and I will admit that I’m a bit of a shopaholic.  I go through cyclical phases where I will abstain from most shopping, but I’ll indulge in a necklace here or a pair of earrings there – you know, the small things that you can make completely untraceable if you buy them with cash.  And then it happens… my shopaholic side rears its head and decides that it’s time to hit the pavement.  The drought is finally over and I decide that somehow, magically, I am in dire need of nearly everything I’ve pinned on Pinterest (and yes, I still hoard dream outfits on my Pinterest page).  I will not disclose what I have purchased thus far, but after the drought it feels like a full on rain storm… with an accompanying mudslide… and maybe a hurricane… but a very STYLISH hurricane.

So here’s to the style hurricane that has stuck my closet – one of the loves of my life.  Cheers.

XOXO,

Lauren

So far, Southern California has been an absolute BLAST! I’m loving the people, food, fashion, and sub-cultures like crazy, and it honestly reminds me a lot of Miami, so I feel right at home.  I snagged these sandals and sunnies today at the local TJ Maxx (I know, I can’t help myself!) and sat down with my hubs to enjoy a Mexican popsicle or, as I like to call them, Mexipops!

I know this outfit is quite similar to my last post, but what can I say – I’ve seriously been digging stripes lately and can’t resist a good festival short!  I mixed things up by switching out my headscarf for a felt hat in a nice color and swapped my t-strap sandals for some super comfy slides.

XOXO,

Lauren

After a few weeks of hot Raleigh weather, we finally got some relief this week after a few rain showers.  Believe it or not, a long-sleeve top was definitely in demand this week despite it being June, which I take as a prequel to California weather!  I can’t believe that we will be moving to Southern California next month, but I am incredibly excited for all that awaits us there.  To me, these peep-toe booties scream SoCal, and I made sure I snagged them ASAP since there were on super sale!

Lauren

This girl just turned 24, and I have to say that I finally feel like I am beginning to come into my own!  I know everyone always says that college is the time when you find yourself, but I honestly think that you refine who you are in the years after college.  I am truly thankful for all the people in my life that have helped make me who I am, and I have to say that I think sometimes those people that were in your life for a limited time can have a seriously lasting impact (in a good way!).

Here I’ve gathered a few of my favorite “words of wisdom” for you all, in honor of this week! (click through for sources)

Guess what – I’m baaaaaack!  The past month or so has been particularly difficult for my family, and unfortunately I needed to take some time off to cope with the loss of two family members.  Nevertheless, I am officially back and stoked for all the spring and summer fashion that has already been hitting the shelves!  I’m keeping this post short and sweet, but be on the lookout for more posts going live soon!!!

XOXO,

I can finally say it: I am done with my first semester of graduate school!  I know I’ve been MIA for the last week or so, but I have to say that finals week was brutal.  Now that I’ve survived finals, I can enjoy this beautiful holiday season!  I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe Christmas is just two weeks away, and I am so thankful that I’ve finished my Christmas shopping already.

I’ve always loved chambray, and recently I have experimented with the whole denim-on-denim look.  One thing I’ve learned is that it’s good to visually break up the denim pieces so you don’t have a Britney Spears/Justin Timberlake effect – I KNOW you know what I’m referring to 😉  I decided to layer a cute vest over my chambray button-down and top it all off with my favorite felt hat to add a little more color.  Super comfy and cute, right?

Some days you just have to kick back and relax, and today is finally the day! I’ve been non-stop busy for the past few months and it’s nice to be able to sit back, relax, and get ready to eat a life’s worth of food on Thursday. My recent button-down habit has translated into a cold weather flannel habit, and I have to say that they are perhaps the comfiest button-downs around! I’m on the search for a buffalo plaid one now, which was totally prompted by the buffalo plaid Instagram flood I witnessed the other day. Here’s hoping I can track one down soon!

I avoided button-down shirts like the plague in high school and college – to me they represented stuffiness and endless hours of being uncomfortable (and the inevitable peep-show that would ensue since I’m a bustier lady).  Thankfully, I decided to give my old rival another chance, and I have fallen in love with them!  Honestly, button-down shirts are so versatile and classic, and the whole fit issue can be fixed by simply trying on enough brands to figure out what works best for you.  There are definitely more options today than there were a few years ago, too – everything from cotton to chiffon, which makes button-downs even more versatile!  I love that you can channel a variety of different characters through clothing, and this staple can take you from Audrey Hepburn to Risky Business to Angelina Jolie in a heartbeat.

Last night I was fortunate enough to meet some absolutely wonderful Raleigh bloggers at the first ever Raleigh Bloggers Dinner.  Kate of Sara Kate Styling organized the whole thing, and she was able to get a ton of local Raleigh vendors to help create a gorgeous evening!  I’ve included a few photos, but I can’t wait to see all the photos that Kendall took – she’s an amazing photographer (remember that name, Raleigh brides!).  I was particularly in love with the place settings from Classic Party Rentals and the monogrammed wine glasses from Swagger gifts.  I searched all over for gold plates and flatware when I was planning my wedding in Florida, and it’s great to know that brides in Raleigh can easily find such beautiful tableware.

Ok, confession time: I do not own wine glasses.  I know, I know – what’s wrong with me?  Well, now I have the perfect break-proof wine glass for sipping vino after work.  I’m still searching for the perfect set, because occasionally someone other than me will totally want wine, but I have to say that this cute little stemless glass does the job perfectly for this party of one!
