With a new city comes a new selection of shops to go absolutely crazy in, and I will admit that I’m a bit of a shopaholic.  I go through cyclical phases where I will abstain from most shopping, but I’ll indulge in a necklace here or a pair of earrings there – you know, the small things that you can make completely untraceable if you buy them with cash.  And then it happens… my shopaholic side rears its head and decides that it’s time to hit the pavement.  The drought is finally over and I decide that somehow, magically, I am in dire need of nearly everything I’ve pinned on Pinterest (and yes, I still hoard dream outfits on my Pinterest page).  I will not disclose what I have purchased thus far, but after the drought it feels like a full on rain storm… with an accompanying mudslide… and maybe a hurricane… but a very STYLISH hurricane.

So here’s to the style hurricane that has stuck my closet – one of the loves of my life.  Cheers.

XOXO,

Lauren

San Diego was an absolute blast, and I have to say that one of my favorite things we did there was visit the San Diego Zoo! I only managed to get one shot of my whole outfit during our day there, but it was so comfortable and I felt absolutely Cali-licious. California has absolutely stolen my heart, and I hope to call Southern California home within the next year (eek!). Our trip was filled with a plethora of adventures, and I hope to better detail what I learned on our trip soon for all of you!

This girl just turned 24, and I have to say that I finally feel like I am beginning to come into my own!  I know everyone always says that college is the time when you find yourself, but I honestly think that you refine who you are in the years after college.  I am truly thankful for all the people in my life that have helped make me who I am, and I have to say that I think sometimes those people that were in your life for a limited time can have a seriously lasting impact (in a good way!).

Here I’ve gathered a few of my favorite “words of wisdom” for you all, in honor of this week! (click through for sources)

Guess what – I’m baaaaaack!  The past month or so has been particularly difficult for my family, and unfortunately I needed to take some time off to cope with the loss of two family members.  Nevertheless, I am officially back and stoked for all the spring and summer fashion that has already been hitting the shelves!  I’m keeping this post short and sweet, but be on the lookout for more posts going live soon!!!

I can finally say it: I am done with my first semester of graduate school!  I know I’ve been MIA for the last week or so, but I have to say that finals week was brutal.  Now that I’ve survived finals, I can enjoy this beautiful holiday season!  I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe Christmas is just two weeks away, and I am so thankful that I’ve finished my Christmas shopping already.

I’ve always loved chambray, and recently I have experimented with the whole denim-on-denim look.  One thing I’ve learned is that it’s good to visually break up the denim pieces so you don’t have a Britney Spears/Justin Timberlake effect – I KNOW you know what I’m referring to 😉  I decided to layer a cute vest over my chambray button-down and top it all off with my favorite felt hat to add a little more color.  Super comfy and cute, right?

Muscle tanks have always been a challenge for me because I’m on the busty side, but I’m so thankful that I’ve finally found one that works for my body type!  I never thought I would be able to make this style top a part of my wardrobe, but I found the perfect cut muscle tank at Lee’s Fab’rik event in Chapel Hill, NC this past week.  Of course, I had to grab this same tank in black as well, so be prepared to see my fashion repeat!

This past week I attended the launch party of a thriving clothing line that launched for the first time in a physical retail store.  Démodé Clothing is an amazing urban sportswear line that is young and absolutely HOT, and they chose the perfect Raleigh location to make North Carolinians’ dreams come true- Estate Boutique.  What makes Démodé Clothing so perfect is its simplicity and attention to detail- I mean, what is more American than a classic t-shirt with carefully chosen typography?  What I love about this line is that it just FEELS so classic American, and it hits so close to home.  This collection is like a mixture of classic American, urban chic, and Marc Jacobs punk, and all with an extremely personal touch.  And the best part?  Démodé Clothing is a local Raleigh-based company with epic potential.  Honestly, Estate Boutique and Démodé Clothing are exactly what a growing city like Raleigh, NC needs- something to break the proverbial Southern preppy atmosphere and push the fashion envelope in a Southern city.

I’m so excited to finally get to explore downtown Raleigh!  Now, Raleigh isn’t the most urban city in the world, but with the influx of 20- and 30-somethings the city is quickly changing and becoming more and more like a true city.  With this comes an increase in smaller, unique businesses that reflect what it truly means to live in an urban area, which brings me to some exciting news: DEMODE clothing is launching their Melange collection at Estate Boutique this week!  Now for those who don’t know, DEMODE clothing is a young urban clothing company based out of Raleigh, NC, and this launch is one of the first times their clothing will be featured in a physical store.  Talk about exciting!  In honor of this launch, DEMODE and Estate Boutique are hosting a launch party this Friday, August 1st, in downtown Raleigh.  Now, it’s a limited event, but tickets are available to attend for free while they last (click here to snag one!).  Come be a part of Raleigh fashion history and rub elbows with bloggers, photographers, and models at this one-of-a-kind event.  See ya there!

P.S. DEMODE’s new website is HOT!!!

I love a crop top just like any other girl, but sometimes it can be challenging to style in a new and refreshing way.  I’ve toyed around with different ways to wear a crop top and I’ve come to discover that I love layering them over skirts or dresses to throw a fashion curveball.  Here, I mixed a laid-back crop top with a pencil skirt – a combination that you can easily work into your daily life or try for a night out on the town with your friends!  Layering is also a great way to get past body insecurities and finally don that super cute crop top you’ve been thinking so much about.  You CAN wear it – where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I absolutely love mixing seemingly opposite pieces to create a new look, and sometimes it can be difficult to find unique items that are truly special.  Enter 9th & Elm – an online mecca for all things independently made!  They offer thousands of handmade and/or independent designs from dozens of different independent designers all in one place, which helps cut down the time spent searching for the perfect necklace so that you can catch up on those Bachelorette episodes you TiVo’ed forever ago!

As soon as I saw this crop top and the shark tooth studs on their website, I knew it was meant to be.  The top is super comfortable and whenever I see it I can’t help but reminisce; I’m totally a Florida girl at heart.  Also, talk about versatility- I have literally worn these earrings every day since I got them in the mail! Obsessed!!!  Seriously, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back, relax, and check out 9th & Elm – it’s just that good.
